The Governing Council of the Federal University, Gashua (FUGA), has announced the appointment of Professor Yaqub Ahmad Geidam as the 4th Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
The appointment, which is for a single five-year term, takes effect from Feb. 11, 2026.
Professor Geidam is currently the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Maiduguri, and brings to the position years of academic, administrative and leadership experience in Nigeria’s university system.
A letter conveying his appointment, dated Jan. 10, 2026, was signed and issued by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of FUGA, Barrister Ibrahim Usman.
The Governing Council congratulated Prof. Geidam on his appointment and expressed confidence in his capacity to provide effective leadership and advance the university’s academic and institutional development.
Members of the university community and well-wishers have also extended prayers for Allah’s blessings on his tenure, wishing him divine guidance, success, peace and good health as he assumes office.
Professor Geidam succeeds the outgoing Vice-Chancellor and becomes the fourth substantive head of the Federal University, Gashua since its establishment.
