The Federal University of Kashere (FUK), Gombe State, has appointed Prof. Mohammed Inuwa Ja’afar as its fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor following a rigorous selection process by the university’s Governing Council.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday, 3rd February 2026, by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Williams Olushola Aderounmu, during the council’s 10th Special Meeting. Prof. Aderounmu said Prof. Ja’afar emerged the best candidate among 20 contenders interviewed for the prestigious position.

“The selection was based strictly on merit, and Prof. Ja’afar recorded the highest score in the rigorous evaluation process,” the Pro-Chancellor said, noting that the decision reflects the council’s commitment to appointing competent leadership to advance the university’s growth and development.

Prof. Mohammed Inuwa Ja’afar, a distinguished academic from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences at Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, is widely recognised for his expertise in Environmental Microbiology. He previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at MAU, overseeing administrative operations, and was appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor in June 2024, following the expiration of the then Vice-Chancellor’s tenure. He handed over leadership to Prof. Ibrahim Umar in July 2024.

The Pro-Chancellor added that Prof. Ja’afar’s leadership skills and administrative competence, demonstrated during his previous roles, made him the most suitable candidate to lead FUK. His tenure officially begins after the end of Prof. Umaru A. Pate’s term on 11th February 2026.

The university community has congratulated Prof. Ja’afar and expressed confidence that his tenure will strengthen academic excellence, research, and institutional development.
