The Gombe State Government is set to commence construction of an international livestock and grains market, along with an ultra-modern abattoir, as part of efforts to enhance agro-commercial activities and modernize food supply infrastructure in the state.
The Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Muhammad Gambo Magaji, made the disclosure on Wednesday while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
Magaji, who also chairs the compensation committee, confirmed that all compensation payments to property owners affected by the project have been completed. He added that the government followed a transparent and fair process in line with its commitment to inclusive development.
He announced that 181 hectares of land have been allocated for the initiative, which aligns with Governor Yahaya’s urban renewal and economic transformation agenda to position Gombe as a leading commercial hub in Nigeria’s North-East.
“To ensure a smooth start, a seven-day notice has been issued for all landowners and beneficiaries to vacate the designated area,” Magaji said.
He emphasized that the project will modernize livestock processing, strengthen food value chains, and boost agro-economic activities across the state and region.
Magaji further assured that the compensation committee remains open to addressing any complaints from affected individuals regarding the process.
