The Gombe State House of Assembly is set to harness the power of Information Technology (IT) to enhance legislative efficiency and transparency.
This was disclosed on Thursday by the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Abubakar Luggerewo, during the opening session of a four-day retreat in Dutse, Jigawa State.
The retreat, themed “Technology Adoption for Democracy Development and Promoting e-Legislative,” aims to equip members and principal officers of the Assembly with the skills to integrate IT into legislative processes.
Luggerewo stated the importance of leveraging IT to strengthen legislative functions, improve public service delivery, and promote democracy.
“I am optimistic that leveraging the advantage of IT will help in strengthening our legislative duty, promoting democracy and efficient public service delivery,” Luggerewo said.
The Speaker expressed gratitude to Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi for attending the retreat’s opening session and commended his administration’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends to the people of Jigawa.
In his address, Governor Namadi praised the retreat’s focus on technology adoption, pointing out its potential to enhance transparency and accountability in governance.
He noted that embracing digital tools would simplify legislative processes, expedite the passage of bills, and ensure laws are enacted to improve the security, social welfare, and economic wellbeing of citizens.
