Gombe Begins Preparation of 2026 Citizens’ Budget, Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Governance

The Gombe State Government has commenced the preparation of its 2026 Citizens’ Budget, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive governance and participatory decision-making.

The consultative forum, held at Limana Event Centre, Tumfure, brought together representatives from various segments of society to share their priorities and inputs for inclusion in the 2026 fiscal plan.

According to the state government, this marks the fifth consecutive year that citizens’ views and sectoral needs are being formally reflected in the state’s budget document.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, who led the state delegation, said the engagement demonstrates Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and people-centered development.

He noted that the citizens’ budget process enables traditional institutions, civil society organizations, persons with disabilities, religious and community leaders, youth and women development groups, and voluntary organizations to make direct submissions for government consideration.

“Since 2019, the administration has maintained this practice to ensure that the budget truly represents the aspirations of the people,” Jatau said.

He added that the forum provides an opportunity for both the executive and legislative arms of government to harmonize citizens’ priorities with the state’s development agenda.

Participants at the forum lauded the state government’s consistency in sustaining the citizens’ engagement model, describing it as a vital step toward inclusive governance and improved service delivery.

They emphasized that such consultations enhance transparency and strengthen public trust in the budgeting process.

The 2026 Citizens’ Budget, when finalized, is expected to capture inputs across key sectors including education, health, agriculture, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and social welfare.
