Gombe Deputy Governor Advocates Multi Sectoral Approach To Stemming Malnutrition

The Gombe State Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, has advocated the application of multi-sectoral approach towards stemming down problems of malnutrition in Nigeria.

The Deputy Governor who was speaking on Monday when he received the Task force Team Lead, Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria, (ANRIN) said, Gombe State adopts the strategy in all its programmes knowing fully well that all sections in the society must have a role to play in solving each problem.

He said,apart from security which is a peculiar issue, health is a priority, and nutrition which provides the impetus for health to function is very vital.

The Deputy Governor appreciated ANRIN’s contribution to the development of Gombe State and Nigeria, assuring them of continued support towards achieving the laudable set targets of ANRIN and the Government.

He also assured them of prompt payment of allocations meant for the project, and lamented that the growing rate of inflation may not allow them achieve the services they were meant for.

Speaking earlier, the Task Force Team Leader, ANRIN, Dr. Ridkgat Telegado, intimated the Deputy Governor on activities of the organization in collaboration with the federal, state, and local Governments towards improving nutrition in Nigeria.

She said in spite of progress in recent years, Nigeria still faces significant challenges when it comes to ensuring adequate food and nutrition for its population.

On the roles of the state, the Task Team Lead said, the state executive and the legislators can play significant role in advancing nutrition, including adopting relevant legislation, helping to shape or oversee state plans, engaging constituencies at community levels , partnering with people and organizations in civil society and enforcement of effective national regulations and relevant World Health Assembly Regulations.

She commended the Gombe State Governments allocation in the year 2022 but expressed displeasure on its reduction in 2024, and also pleaded with them to ensure funds earmarked for the sector are promptly released.

In attendance were the honourable commissioner of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry,Mr.Barnabas Malle, Permanent Secretaries as well as the Senior Special Assistant To the Governor on Development Partners Coordination,Dr.Ishaku Babayo among others.
