As part of the commemoration of the 63rd birthday anniversary of Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, a free medical outreach was organized by the Gombe State Commissioner of Finance, Muhammad Gambo Magaji in collaboration with the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) Chapter.
The outreach which is taking place in Dukku local government, aims to provide essential healthcare services to the local community targeting over 600 beneficiaries, mostly vulnerable women and children.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony on Thursday, the benefactor emphasized the importance of healthcare in achieving sustainable development and improving the quality of life for the people especially low income or vulnerable families.
He stated that, “As we celebrate the Governor’s birthday, we are reminded of his vision for a healthier Gombe State. This outreach reflects our commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to quality healthcare, regardless of their socio-economic status. It is a privilege to give back to the community in honour of a leader who prioritizes the welfare of his people.”
“In many places, Governors mark their birthdays with grand social events. However, we have chosen to do it differently, focusing on initiatives that truly impact people’s lives. Our hope is that through this, God will continue to bless our Governor with good health and a long life. This is why we are reaching over 600 beneficiaries, primarily targeting vulnerable women and children. Out of this number, around 100 will undergo surgeries for various ailments, while the remaining will receive other medical treatments and free medication”, the Commissioner added.
In his remarks, Governor Inuwa Yahaya who was represented by the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, expressed his gratitude to the commissioner and the medical professionals who volunteered their services for the outreach.
He emphasized that this initiative is in line with his administration’s broader efforts to strengthen the healthcare system in Gombe State.
He highlighted several key achievements, including the renovation and re-equipping of primary healthcare centres across the state, ensuring that even the most remote areas have access to quality medical services.
The Governor also mentioned the establishment of the Go-Health scheme which has expanded healthcare coverage, providing affordable and accessible healthcare to the most vulnerable as well as the recruitment of hundreds of health workers, and ensuring that healthcare facilities are adequately staffed to meet the growing needs of the population as part of government’s commitment to improving the overall health and well-being of its citizens.
Earlier in his remarks, the medical team lead, Dr. Usman Sadiq, explained that the outreach which the Resident Doctors are undertaking under the sponsorship of the Commissioner, offered a range of medical services, including consultations, screenings and treatments for common ailments, along with health education on preventive care.
He disclosed that the benefactor has directed for referrals to higher medical facilities in situations where the team cannot handle the cases.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of Dukku local government, Alh. Adamu Muhammad Waziri (Wazirin Dukku), his counterpart from Nafada, Alh. Babangida Jigawa, the Commissioner for Information, Alh. Mijinyawa Ardo Tilde and the Emir of Dukku, Alh. Abdulkadir Haruna Rasheed, CON, all expressed their gratitude Hon. Muhammad Magaji for this selfless service while praying for Allah to grant Governor Inuwa Yahaya sustained health and bless his new age.
Other dignitaries at the event include the Commissioner for Local Government, Alh. Mohammed Waziri Malle, the Chairman of Funakaye Local Government, Alh. Shu’aibu Abdulrahman, Managing Director of Bubayero Micro Finance Bank, Ibrahim Babikir, APC chieftain Alh. Manniru Adamu, as well as other party officials and stakeholders among numerous others.
