In a collaborative effort to improve the quality of education in Gombe State, Gombe State First Lady, Hajiya Asmau Inuwa Yahaya flagged off the distribution of essential learning materials to schools across all 11 local government areas of the state.
This initiative aims to ensure that schools across the state have adequate resources and instructional materials for effective teaching and learning.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Wednesday, Hajiya Asmau Inuwa Yahaya highlighted the crucial role of adequate learning materials in a successful educational system.
“The provision of these resources is essential to rejuvenate the education system and propel our students towards achieving quality performance,” she stated.
The distributed learning materials consist of exercise books provided by the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and other instructional materials supplied by the national Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEB).
The initiative was bolstered by a generous donation of 50,000 exercise books from the office of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, under the “Renewed Hope” programme, signifying a shared commitment to enhancing the learning environment for Gombe students.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Gombe State Commissioner for Education, Professor Aishatu Maigari, reiterated Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s strong commitment to education.
“Governor Yahaya’s administration is firmly committed to raising education standards in Gombe State,” she said.
“This commitment is evident not only through the distribution of learning materials, but also through ongoing construction and renovation of schools, fostering a conducive learning environment for our students,” Professor Maigari added.
She further highlighted the Governor’s bold step towards addressing the deficiency in human resources in the education sector by employing 1,000 graduates to teach in the state’s secondary schools, with plans for further recruitment.
The distribution was met with immense enthusiasm from both students and teachers. They expressed their sincere appreciation for this initiative, pledging to dedicate themselves even more fully to their studies and work tirelessly to justify the government’s efforts in building a brighter educational future for Gombe State.
