Gombe Gov Celebrates World Press Freedom Day, Urges Journalists To Combat Fake News

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum has commended journalists for their dedication to promoting democratic ideals and urged them to continue upholding their role as watchdogs of society and guardians of public interests.

In a goodwill message on World Press Freedom Day, Governor Yahaya recognized the crucial role of the Press in enlightening the public about government policies and global developments.

He emphasized the need for responsible journalism in the face of evolving challenges, particularly in the digital era.

The Governor noted that the digital era has impacted press freedom, journalists’ safety, and access to information, and advised journalists to guard against fake news and misinformation, ensuring accurate and balanced reportage.

He assured that his administration will continue to work with the media as partners and critical allies in entrenching transparency, accountability, and openness in governance in Gombe State.
