Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has restated his administration’s commitment to keep collaborating with the federal government and other relevant partners to improve electricity supply in the state especially in rural areas.
The Governor reiterated this while performing the official commissioning of the newly constructed power substation and the two 33KV feeders in Billiri to improve power supply to communities in Billiri, Kaltungo, Shongom and Kumo areas.
Represented by the Commissioner of Energy and Mineral Resources, Alh. Sanusi Ahmed Pindiga, the Governor noted that the development will enhance socio-economic activities within the benefiting communities.
“I want to emphasize that since the inception of this administration, we have been working closely with the federal government through the Rural Electrification Agency and other key partners, to enhance electricity supply to rural communities. I am confident that when electricity supply is improved, it will foster the growth of small businesses and social activities in these communities”, the Governor said.
“This administration is committed to creating job opportunities and establishing platforms that can create wealth for our citizens, particularly the youths, to alleviate poverty. I strongly believe that this sub-station, along with the additional two 33KV installations, will contribute to our goal by ensuring a consistent power supply to the affected communities”, the Governor added.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya further urged the Jos Electricity Distribution Company to keep up to its expectations by ensuring necessary installations and transformers are provided to enhance their services and foster good customer relations, urging the Billiri community to work with authorities in safeguarding the new facilities.
In his remarks, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, explained that the commissioned facilities will provide a readily available electricity supply to the Southern part of Gombe state and Kumo town in Akko local government.
The MD appreciated Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his support to the company throughout the period of the execution of this laudable project, promising continued collaboration with the Inuwa-led administration towards providing adequate power to the entire communities of Gombe state.
The Royal Father at the event, Mai Kaltungo and Deputy Chairman of the Gombe State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, HRH Engr. Saleh Mohammed, expressed gratitude to both the Gombe state government and JED Plc for their efforts in enhancing electricity supply in Southern Gombe, pledging that the communities benefiting from the project would take ownership and ensure maximum protection of the facilities.
