Gombe Gov. Signs Electricity Law, Establishes Regulatory Commission

Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe has on Tuesday signed the Gombe State Electricity Bill 2025 into law, establishing the Gombe State Electricity Market and the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission (GSERC).

The bill, passed by the State House of Assembly on April 29 and assented to by the governor on May 5, aligns with the Electricity Act 2023, which empowers subnational governments to manage electricity within their jurisdictions.

The new law provides a framework for regulating electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and system operations within the state.

It also encourages private sector investment, public-private partnerships, and improved access to electricity through grid, mini-grid, and off-grid solutions using both renewable and non-renewable sources.

Commissioner for Energy and Solid Mineral Resources, Sanusi Ahmed Pindiga, said the law marks a significant milestone in the state’s pursuit of energy self-sufficiency and industrial development.

Gombe hosts the Dadinkowa Hydro-Electric Power Station, which supplies about 40 megawatts to the national grid, and holds deposits of coal, petroleum, and natural gas.

The signing of the law comes shortly after the government approved N5.5 billion for the completion of the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park in Dadinkowa, which has attracted several high-profile investors.

Among them is Three Ace Technologies, which plans to generate 150 megawatts of solar power for use in Gombe and surrounding states.
