Gombe Gov. Yahaya Signs GOSTEC Law

Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe has signed into law the Gombe State Security, Traffic and Environmental Commission (GOSTEC) Law 2025.

The new legislation, which was passed by the Gombe State House of Assembly on Feb. 25, repeals the Gombe State Agency for Social Services Law of 2018.

The GOSTEC Law provides a legal framework for the operations of the state’s security, traffic management, and environmental protection outfit, aimed at complementing the work of conventional security agencies.

The law empowers the Commission to assist in maintaining public order, ensure traffic control, and protect the environment within the state.

It also promotes collaboration between GOSTEC and other security agencies for coordinated and community-based responses to security and environmental challenges.

Gov. Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace and public safety, noting recent initiatives such as the distribution of 50 operational vehicles to security agencies and the organization of two high-level security summits.

“With the establishment of GOSTEC, the government is taking another proactive step towards securing lives, property, and public infrastructure,” the governor said.

Earlier in the day, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, officially handed over a copy of the law to the Director-General of GOSTEC, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bappah.

He said the move was to ensure proper implementation of the law for the benefit of Gombe citizens.
