Gombe Govt Proposes Creation Of 13 Local Council Development Areas

The Gombe State Government has submitted a bill to the State House of Assembly seeking the creation of 13 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to strengthen grassroots governance and improve service delivery.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who transmitted the bill to the legislature, said the proposal was in line with his administration’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people and promoting inclusive and participatory democracy.

According to the governor, the LCDAs will serve as administrative sub-divisions of existing Local Government Areas and will address pressing needs in security, education, healthcare, infrastructure and social services, especially in rural and underserved communities.

The proposed LCDAs and their headquarters include: Akko North (Amada), Akko West (Pindiga), Balanga South (Bambam), Billiri West (Tal), Dukku North (Malala), Funakaye South (Tongo), Gombe South (Bolari), Kaltungo East (Wange), Kwami West (Bojude), Nafada West (Birin Fulani), Pero-Chonge (Filiya), Yamaltu East (Hinna) and Yamaltu West (Zambuk).

Yahaya said the bill also provides for the appointment of Interim Management Committees to oversee the operations of each LCDA pending the conduct of local council elections.

He urged the assembly to give the bill expeditious consideration and called on residents to support the initiative, describing it as a step toward consolidating Gombe’s position as a leader in inclusive governance and grassroots development.
