
The Gombe State Government has constituted a committee to investigate the rising cases of vandalisation of primary and secondary schools across the state.
The approval for the committee’s establishment was granted by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON.
A statement issued on Tuesday in Gombe by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, said the development followed government’s concern over increasing damage to educational facilities and its resolve to safeguard public infrastructure.
The committee is chaired by Malam Aliyu M. Kamara, with members drawn from key institutions in the state’s education and administrative sectors.
Members include the Chairperson of the Teachers’ Service Commission; Chairman of the Secondary School Education Board; Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government; and the Permanent Secretary/Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms.
Others are the Director, Schools Services, Ministry of Education; the State ALGON Chairman; and the Director, PRS, SUBEB. The Director, Special Services and Political, will serve as secretary.
According to the SSG, the committee is mandated to immediately investigate the scale, pattern and causes of the vandalisation, identify affected schools, assess the extent of damage and recommend preventive measures and accountability mechanisms to forestall future occurrences.
Njodi said the government expects the findings to guide further action toward improving school security and protecting public investments in the education sector.
