The Gombe State Commissioner for Higher Education, Muhammad Shetima Gadam, has assured students that the state government is committed to reopening the scholarship registration portal.
Gadam gave the assurance when he received representatives of the Gombe State Students Association (GOSSA) during a courtesy visit to his office on Tuesday.
He urged students to remain patient, saying the government is aware of their concerns and is working towards addressing them.
“The present administration is committed to implementing lasting educational reforms and ensuring a better future for our students,” he said.
The Commissioner highlighted recent government interventions, including the clearance of scholarship backlogs and increased allowances for students in state-owned tertiary institutions.
He called on students to support the administration of Gov. Inuwa Yahaya for the continued delivery of student-centered programmes.
Also speaking, the Director of Student Affairs, Ruben Ezikel, and the Director of Scholarship, Adamu Madaki Kanawa, encouraged students to explore alternative support options such as the Federal Government Scholarship and the Students Loan Scheme.
Responding, the President of GOSSA thanked the Commissioner for the engagement and appealed for the reopening of the scholarship portal, especially for new intakes. He also urged the government to review tuition policies in light of financial pressures on students.
