The Gombe State Government has inaugurated the State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Scheme (SEMSAS) to provide free 48-hour medical care for all emergency cases across the state.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya launched the initiative during the 2025 Gombe State Health Summit, describing it as a major milestone in improving access to emergency healthcare services.
The SEMSAS scheme aims to ensure that no resident is denied life-saving treatment due to financial hardship. It provides prompt response and stabilization for accident victims, emergency patients, and other critical cases within the first 48 hours of care.
According to officials, the new programme complements the existing Rescue and Emergency Services for Maternal Assistance in Transport (RESMAT), which offers free transportation for pregnant women in rural areas to the nearest health facilities.
While the dedicated emergency hotline “112” is being finalized, residents have been advised to reach the GoHealth 24/7 Call Centre for immediate assistance.
Governor Yahaya reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a resilient and inclusive healthcare system that prioritizes the welfare and safety of every citizen.
