Gombe Partners China’s Juncao Centre on Feed Production, Desert Control

Gombe State Government, through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) and Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (AcreSal) projects, has partnered with China’s Juncao Technology Development Center to enhance livestock feed production, combat desertification, and alleviate poverty.

The joint technical committee meeting, held at the L-PRES Project conference hall, brought together Prof. Usman Bello Abubakar, L-PRES Project Coordinator; Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, AcreSal Project Coordinator; and Dr. Lawandi Datti, representing Juncao Technology.

Prof. Abubakar noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s vision to revamp the livestock sector and tackle environmental challenges affecting agriculture and livestock production in the state.

The collaboration focuses on utilizing Juncao Technology’s expertise to produce nutritious forage crops such as Napier and Elephant grasses, known for their rapid growth and suitability for livestock feed and environmental protection.

The partnership also aims to establish fodder banks and grazing colonies along resurveyed cattle routes to mitigate farmer-herder conflicts, a key intervention under the L-PRES project.

Juncao’s mushroom production technology, already benefiting smallholder farmers in over 100 developing countries, will also be introduced in Gombe to provide alternative income sources and enhance food security.
