Gombe Partners NBRRI on Local Tech, Donates Facility to NSCDC

Gombe State Government has announced plans to deepen collaboration with the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) to boost infrastructure using indigenous, cost-effective technologies.

Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya made this known on Friday when he received the Director-General of NBRRI, Prof. Samson Duna, at the Government House in Gombe.

Yahaya lauded the Institute’s commitment to innovation and quality delivery, particularly acknowledging the recent construction of a modern security outpost at the new Mile 3 along the Gombe-Yola Road.

He described the building as “a masterpiece and an edifice that will stand the test of time,” adding that it reflected the Institute’s technical expertise and durable design capacity.

“As the beneficiaries and custodians of this structure, the Government of Gombe State will ensure its proper maintenance and use for the intended purpose,” the governor stated.

He directed the immediate handover of the building to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to support security operations in the area.

Yahaya also disclosed plans to collaborate with NBRRI to convert historic monuments in Gombe into museums using the Institute’s homegrown technologies. He commended Prof. Duna for steering the organisation with innovation and aligning its work with national development goals.

Earlier, Prof. Duna explained that NBRRI’s building technology relied on entirely local materials, making construction more affordable and climate-resilient.

“Our buildings are naturally adaptive to the environment — cooler in heat and warmer during cold periods — without the need for mechanical regulation,” he said.

He said the Gombe Zonal Office of NBRRI, which services the entire North-East subregion, had been strengthened by the allocation of land and the construction of a three-storey building by the state government.

He also mentioned the ongoing construction of an Artisan Centre at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Gombe, which is intended to serve as a hub for skilled labour development in the building sector.

Other completed NBRRI projects across the state include classroom blocks, healthcare centres, water boreholes, solar-powered streetlights, and rural roads.

Prof. Duna praised the governor’s support and visionary leadership, which he said had contributed significantly to Gombe’s infrastructural transformation and inclusive growth.

Following the meeting, Prof. Duna, alongside the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Hon. Abubakar Aminu Musa, and other officials, proceeded to Mile 3 for the formal handover of the demonstration facility.

The Gombe State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Jibrin Idris, who received the building on behalf of the Corps, commended the governor for the gesture and assured that the facility would be put to optimal use to enhance security operations.

He also thanked the governor for sustained support to security agencies, including the provision of operational vehicles and logistics.
