Gombe Partners Qatar Charity to Support Disabled Students

The Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD) has distributed mobility devices to students with disabilities across the state in partnership with Qatar Charity Organisation.

The items, which include electric wheelchairs and white guide canes, were provided to enhance the education, independence, and dignity of students with physical and visual impairments.

Speaking during the exercise, the Executive Chairman of GSCPWD, Mr. Ishiyaku Adamu, commended Qatar Charity for its humanitarian gesture aimed at improving the social, educational, and economic inclusion of persons with disabilities in the state.

He also lauded Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his continuous support and visionary leadership in establishing the Commission and prioritising the welfare of persons with disabilities.

“These devices are valuable and life-changing,” Ishiyaku said. “I urge beneficiaries to handle them with care, make the best use of them, and keep praying for our partners and our Governor, who has remained a true friend of persons with disabilities.”

He noted that the Commission, in collaboration with its partners, would continue to implement programs that promote empowerment and inclusivity for persons with disabilities across all clusters in Gombe State.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Aishatu Aliyu Usman, mother of a student recipient, expressed gratitude to the Commission and Qatar Charity for the intervention.

“This is truly a dream come true,” she said emotionally. “For years, I carried my daughter Khadija on my back because she couldn’t use a normal wheelchair, and we couldn’t afford an electric one. Today, we received one free of charge. It’s a life-changer for our family.”

Usman added that the support had brought renewed hope and dignity to her family and many others.

Ishiyaku assured that the Commission was working on similar initiatives to support other clusters of persons with disabilities through assistive devices and empowerment tools tailored to their needs.

He reiterated the commitment of the Commission and its partners to build an inclusive and empowered society where persons with disabilities can live, learn, and work with dignity.
