Gombe Ranks 7th Nationally in 2025 pSPI, Outperforms 30 States in Governance, Service Delivery

Gombe State has emerged 7th overall in the 2025 pcl. State Performance Index (pSPI), surpassing 30 other states in governance, infrastructure, and citizen-focused service delivery, according to a report by Phillips Consulting (pcl.), a leading national advisory firm.

The pSPI is widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive assessments of subnational governance in Nigeria. It evaluates the 36 states and the FCT across several metrics including governance, economic management, social development, and infrastructure.

In the 2025 edition, Gombe State ranked 1st in road quality, 1st in public hospital service delivery, and 1st in Ease of Doing Business, underscoring the state government’s continued investment in infrastructure, healthcare, and regulatory reforms.

The report also showed Gombe ranked 2nd in Security of Lives and Property and 2nd in Environmental Cleanliness, further highlighting the state’s success in maintaining peace, stability, and sustainable development.

Other rankings include:

3rd in Affordability of Public Healthcare, driven by the GoHealth insurance scheme;

5th in Public Transport Accessibility;

5th in Affordability of Education.

The index credits the performance to the leadership style of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, citing his “political will, citizen-focused governance philosophy, and sustained reforms.”

“Gombe is positioned to become Nigeria’s most surprising success story in the coming decade,” the report projected, noting the state’s strategic location, growing infrastructure base, and emerging industrial and trade sectors.

The pSPI noted that targeted investments in agriculture, trade, and SMEs have placed Gombe on a path of economic resilience, reducing over-reliance on federal allocations and boosting internally generated revenue.

“Strategically located at the crossroads of Northeast and Central Nigeria, Gombe is evolving into a regional trade hub,” the report added, praising the state’s proactive support for enterprise and human capital development.

Reacting to the ranking, the Director-General of Press Affairs, Government House Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said the national recognition validates Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s reform-oriented leadership and commitment to inclusive development.

“With continued reform, fiscal discipline, and inclusive planning, Gombe is not just rising, it is setting a benchmark for other states to follow,” Misilli said.
