
Gombe State has reaffirmed its commitment to full participation in the forthcoming National Sports Festival scheduled to take place in Ogun State, as the Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, received the symbolic Unity Torch on behalf of the state.
Speaking at a brief but colourful ceremony on Monday, the Deputy Governor reiterated Gombe’s readiness to participate actively in the festival, building on the state’s growing reputation in sports development.
He recalled the outstanding performance of a Gombe athlete during the last edition of the festival in Asaba and assured that this year, the state would present an even more formidable contingent.
He further noted that Gombe State remains committed to supporting national unity initiatives, describing the National Sports Festival as a critical platform for fostering peace, cohesion, and talent development across Nigeria.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development expressed optimism about Gombe’s prospects at the games, disclosing that the state will field athletes in all 24 registered sporting events.
He praised the athletes’ dedication and affirmed the state government’s support.
Leader of the Unity Torch team from the Federal Ministry of Sports, Mr. Mbora Ikana, emphasised the torch’s symbolism in promoting peace and unity.
He urged states to harness the spirit of the festival to strengthen national integration and promote youth engagement.
The event was attended by top government officials and dignitaries including the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi; Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi Kasimu; Honourable Commissioners; Permanent Secretaries; as well as representatives of the State Commissioner of Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
