Gombe State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe drinking water and a clean environment for its citizens.
Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau made the pledge on Tuesday while receiving the Gombe SURWASH team, accompanied by World Bank representatives and federal and state ministries of water resources.
Jatau emphasized that water and sanitation are crucial for healthcare and lauded the government’s efforts in providing infrastructure.
“The economic situation has hindered progress, but we’re committed to overcoming the challenges,” he said.
The SURWASH team, led by National Project Coordinator Abdulhammid Gwaram, is conducting a mid-term performance review of the Sustainable, Urban, Rural, Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) program.
World Bank’s Senior Social Development Specialist, Hajiya Zara Goni, commended Gombe’s commitment, noting its potential to replicate across the northeast sub-region.
Gombe State Commissioner for Water Environment and Forestry Resources, Alh. Mohammed Saidu Fawu, and Special Adviser Donor Partners Coordination Office, Dr. Ishaku Babayo, accompanied the team.
