The Federal Government has announced plans to establish a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion center in Gombe State. The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Alkali, made the announcement during the commissioning of the Gombe Ultra-Modern Motor Park on Tuesday.
According to the minister, the Federal Ministry of Transportation has been directed to partner with the Gombe State Government to establish the CNG conversion center. The center is expected to provide a seamless network of road and rail infrastructure for the benefit of all Nigerians.
The minister also directed the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Transportation, Daura, to collaborate with the Gombe State University to establish a sustainable platform for visiting lecturing and other exchange of learning opportunities.
The establishment of the CNG conversion center is part of the Federal Government’s initiative to promote the use of CNG as a cleaner and more efficient fuel alternative. The government plans to establish 100 conversion workshops and 60 refueling sites across 18 states in Nigeria by the end of 2024.
The CNG program is a presidential directive aimed at reducing the country’s reliance on petroleum products and promoting the use of cleaner energy sources. The program is expected to ease the cost of transportation in Nigeria and reduce the country’s carbon footprint.
