The Gombe State Government, led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, is embarking on a comprehensive initiative to modernize urban centers in the state, including the capital, with the aim of enhancing social safety and welfare.
Bappayo Samanja Maudo, the Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Urban Planning Development Authority (GOSUPDA), shared details of the government’s plans during an interview with Jewel Times correspondents.
He emphasized the need to adapt to Gombe’s rapid urban growth by introducing modernization efforts similar to those seen in other major cities.
Mr. Maudo highlighted the importance of assigning street names and house numbers to facilitate navigation and improve social interaction, security, and overall public welfare.
This move aligns with ongoing road construction projects initiated by Governor Inuwa’s administration.
To address pedestrian safety concerns, the government intends to construct pedestrian bridges strategically placed near key locations such as markets, schools, and hospitals to enhance safety for pedestrians.
Mr. Maudo expressed concerns about street congestion and unauthorized parking, particularly in market areas, emphasizing the need for designated parking spaces to alleviate traffic congestion and security risks.
In addition to these measures, modern speed breakers and the renovation of eight roundabouts in the state capital are part of the planned urban improvements. Mr. Maudo assured that similar initiatives would be extended to other towns and urban centers across Gombe.
He called on residents to support the government’s initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all citizens and ensuring the successful implementation of development projects that benefit the community.
