Gombe State has been selected among three states to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Sommet D’élevage (World Livestock Summit) scheduled for Oct. 5–11, 2025 in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
The endorsement came from the World Bank through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project National Coordination Office.
In a statement, the National Project Coordinator, Malam Sanusi Abubakar, said the selection followed Gombe’s outstanding performance in implementing the L-PRES project, backed by functional state steering and technical committees.
He commended Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his leadership and sustained investment in livestock transformation, which positioned Gombe as a model for reform.
The Gombe delegation will join Nigeria’s national team to engage global stakeholders, investors and experts in livestock production, trade and innovation at the summit, Europe’s largest livestock gathering.
The summit will focus on sustainability, innovation and opportunities in the livestock ecosystem, giving participants access to international collaborations to strengthen value chains and attract investment.
The state government said its participation aligns with ongoing projects such as the Gombe Agro-Livestock Development Zone, featuring an ultramodern abattoir, international livestock market, tannery, leather factory and other facilities.
According to the government, the initiative is part of efforts to reposition Gombe as a livestock hub for Nigeria and West Africa.
