Yobe State Governor, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, has on Tuesday signed the ₦515.5 billion 2026 Appropriation and Finance Bills into law, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to economic growth and infrastructural development.
The governor described the 2026 budget, christened “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation,” as a continuation of ongoing reforms and investments in critical sectors including education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and employment, aimed at improving the living standards of the people of Yobe State.
Governor Buni commended members of the Yobe State House of Assembly for their dedication and cooperation, noting that the appropriation law provides the legal framework for the effective implementation of government policies and programmes that are beneficial to citizens.
He disclosed that the legislature made slight adjustments to the original budget proposal, reducing it from ₦515,583,000,000 to ₦515,532,000,000.
According to him, the revisions also reflected a marginal decrease in capital expenditure and a corresponding increase in recurrent spending.
“The net allocation to finance capital programmes is now ₦291,903,650,000, representing 62 per cent of the total budget, while ₦223,628,350,000, or 38 per cent, is earmarked for recurrent services,” the governor said.
Governor Buni assured that the implementation of the 2026 budget would be guided by the principles of accountability, transparency, probity, due process, and fiscal discipline, which he said have earned the state national and international recognition over the past six years.
He noted that Yobe State has consistently ranked as a leading state in fiscal transparency, accountability, and sustainability, as attested by the State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) programme of the World Bank.
He also referenced independent assessments by BudgIT, which ranked Yobe among the best states in budget implementation and fiscal transparency in 2023 and 2024.
The governor further assured that his administration would continue to introduce stronger control measures to promote financial prudence, reduce unnecessary expenditure, and ensure that limited resources are directed towards critical socio-economic services.
“As part of measures to ensure effective and efficient budget implementation, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the Ministry of Budget and Planning, and the Ministry of Finance will continue to provide clear policy direction to MDAs for effective monitoring and evaluation of fiscal policies and optimal economic growth,” he added.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Ciroman Buba Mashio, pledged the legislature’s commitment to maintaining a harmonious working relationship with the executive arm of government in order to effectively serve the people of the state.
The development was contained in a statement signed by the Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed.
