Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa has lauded the Gangwari Ganye, Alhaji Dr. Umaru Adamu Sanda, for his dedicated service and outstanding leadership as he marked 25 years on the throne.
The celebration, held Saturday in Ganye—the headquarters of the Ganye Chiefdom—attracted dignitaries from across the country in honour of the traditional ruler’s silver jubilee.
Alhaji Sanda, who ascended the throne on April 7, 2000, was unanimously selected by the kingmakers and officially appointed by the government. He was later elevated from a second-class to a first-class chief on December 4, 2004.
In his goodwill message, Gov. Fintiri described the Gangwari as a symbol of unity, cultural preservation, and development in the state.
“Your reign has been a beacon of stability and progress. You have been a father to all and a bridge-builder among diverse communities. Under your leadership, Ganye has witnessed improvements in education, agriculture, traditional governance, and community engagement,” the governor said.
Fintiri praised the traditional ruler’s efforts in complementing government initiatives, especially in areas such as conflict resolution, youth empowerment, and the promotion of peace and cultural values.
“The relationship between your stool and the government has been one of mutual respect and collaboration. Traditional institutions remain critical in governance, and your leadership is a shining example of that relevance,” he said.
He called on the youth to emulate the Gangwari’s integrity, humility, and commitment, urging the people to use the occasion as a rallying point for unity and development.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s support for the growth of the Chiefdom and highlighted the transformation of the College of Agriculture, Ganye, into the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology as a major milestone.
“This change signifies more than a name. It is a broader mandate to build Ganye into a centre of knowledge, economic vibrancy, and agricultural innovation,” he stated.
In his remarks, the Gangwari Ganye, Alhaji Dr. Umaru Adamu Sanda, expressed appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of the silver jubilee. He pledged to continue fostering peace, unity, and development in the Chiefdom.
The Chairman of the Central Organising Committee, Rep. Mohammed Inuwa Bassi, said the event reflected the legacy of the monarch, noting that his reign has brought unity and progress to Ganye.
Highlights of the event included the conferment of the title Gang Paan Ganye on retired Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, who chaired the occasion. The colourful celebration also featured cultural dances and a grand durbar.
