Gov Inuwa Commends Tinubu as FG Takes Over Gombe General Hospital

Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the Federal Government’s takeover of the newly reconstructed General Hospital Kumo.

Yahaya said the facility’s conversion into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) would enhance healthcare delivery in Gombe State and the Northeast region.

In a statement issued by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor noted that the upgraded hospital would serve as a teaching hospital for the Federal University of Kashere and Lincoln University, Kumo.

He expressed optimism that medical students trained at the institutions would contribute to strengthening the state’s healthcare workforce.

“We are excited about this development, which will no doubt enhance the delivery of quality healthcare services to our people in Gombe State and neighboring states,” he said.

Yahaya said the state government had reconstructed and equipped the 200-bed ultramodern facility before requesting its takeover by the Federal Government.

He explained that the request became necessary after the former FMC in Gombe was upgraded to a Federal Teaching Hospital.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services and highlighted ongoing health sector initiatives, including:

Remodelling of the Specialist Hospital, Gombe

Upgrading general hospitals in Bajoga and Kaltungo

Construction of a new general hospital in Kumo

Revitalization of 114 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state

He also acknowledged the support of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, for facilitating the process.

The Presidency, in a statement announcing President Tinubu’s approval, commended Yahaya’s efforts to improve healthcare in the state.

“The Federal Government recognizes the state’s commitment to healthcare development in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to reform and strengthen the health sector,” the statement read.

The governor reiterated his administration’s plan to construct an additional 114 Primary Healthcare Centres—one in each ward—to ensure equitable access to medical services for all residents.
