Gov. Inuwa, UN Envoy, Dignitaries Attend Gombe Sallah Durbar

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, on Friday led an array of dignitaries to the Emir’s Palace for the annual Sallah Durbar, a colourful cultural display marking the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Among those who joined the Governor were the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Mohammed Fall; Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo; Deputy Speaker; members of the State Executive Council; Head of Civil Service; heads of security agencies; and other senior government officials.

The event, steeped in tradition, featured a grand procession of horse-riders, led by the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, CFR, and other titleholders. Clad in vibrant traditional regalia, the horsemen paraded through the palace grounds, captivating a large audience of residents and visitors.

The Durbar served as a vibrant reminder of Gombe’s rich cultural heritage and the enduring relevance of traditional institutions in fostering unity and identity.

In his Sallah message, the Emir of Gombe called for peace, unity, and harmonious coexistence among the people. He prayed for continued progress and stability in Gombe State and the country at large.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya, in his remarks, praised the Emirate Council for upholding the cultural significance of the Durbar and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, cultural preservation, and state development.

“The Sallah Durbar remains one of the most cherished traditions in Gombe, symbolizing the deep-rooted values of celebration and communal unity that define the Eid festivities in the state,” the Governor said.
