Governor Agbu Kafes of Taraba State has expressed deep concern over the abandoned Ibi Bridge project in Ibi Local Government Council.
The federal government initiative, aimed at boosting educational and economic opportunities, has faced financial challenges, stalling its progress.
Originally awarded in 2020 at a cost of N57 billion, the project has encountered financial difficulties from the start. Governor Kafes, alongside former Chief of Army Staff General Theophilus Y. Danjuma (retd), visited the site on Saturday, express worries over the stoppage of work and emphasized the need for collaboration to bring the project to completion.
The governor highlighted the significant implications of starting and abandoning such a massive project, including its contribution to flooding and the impact on the area’s security network.
Stakeholders have shown readiness to support efforts to bring the federal government’s presence back to the project.
Additionally, concerns have been raised about metal scavengers taking control of the construction site, stripping valuable steel materials and vandalizing the bridge pillars. This worrisome situation has prompted Governor Kefas and other stakeholders to address the issue.
