Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has called on parents to cultivate and promote a strong reading culture among the younger generation.
This appeal was made in a press statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, Emmanuel Bello, on Monday, while congratulating Asogha Wunuji, the victor of the recently concluded Readathon contest.
Wunuji, a native of Taraba State, achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new Guinness World Record for reading aloud for 166 hours, surpassing the previous record of 124 hours and earning the title of the longest reader on the planet.
Governor Kefas commended Wunuji’s extraordinary determination, expressing his confidence in the competitor’s ability to achieve this feat.
He emphasized that Wunuji’s victory should serve as an inspiration to young people, demonstrating that they can accomplish anything with determination and effort.
Highlighting the significance of teamwork, Kefas underscored the need for young people to support each other, as demonstrated by Wunuji’s friends during the contest. He also emphasized that the reading competition aligns with his administration’s free education policy.
Furthermore, Governor Kefas stressed the importance of libraries in effective learning and urged parents to instill a love for reading in their children. He affirmed that books are pathways to success and essential compasses for life.
