
The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, on Wednesday inaugurated a 17-member Task Force for the implementation and monitoring of the Gombe Goes Green (3G) project.
The inauguration, held at the Deputy Governor’s office conference room, aims to accelerate efforts toward addressing climate change, deforestation, desertification, and environmental degradation in the state.
Jatau, who represented Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya at the event, said the initiative was a crucial step in tackling gully erosion, improving food production, and enhancing ecological balance.
“The Gombe Goes Green project is a strategic intervention to mitigate environmental challenges affecting our state. The government expects efficiency and tangible results from this Task Force,” he said.
He urged the members to work with dedication, emphasizing that their performance would be assessed based on the project’s impact.
The Mai Tula, Dr. Abubakar Buba Atare II, who chairs the Task Force, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and the members.
He described Gombe Goes Green as a holistic approach to climate resilience and socioeconomic development, pledging transparency and inclusivity in project execution.
“Our mandate includes afforestation, ecological restoration, and green job creation. We will engage local communities, traditional rulers, and stakeholders to ensure the project’s success,” Atare said.
He also highlighted the need for advocacy and awareness campaigns to encourage public participation in environmental preservation.
The Chairperson of Shongom Local Government, Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello, speaking on behalf of local government chairmen from Gombe South Senatorial District, commended the governor for prioritizing environmental sustainability.
She called on residents to support the initiative, stressing its long-term benefits for the state.
Dignitaries at the event included the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, Head of Civil Service, Alh. Ahmed Kasimu Abdullahi, commissioners, special advisers, Chairperson of the Teachers’ Service Commission, Mrs. Naomi Maiguwa, and Permanent Secretary in the Deputy Governor’s Office, Mrs. Larai Maigari.
