Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the appointment of Dr. Bashir Umar Bashir as the Provost of Mohammed Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Maiduguri. The appointment took effect on 3rd November, 2024.

Dr Bashir earned a PhD. in Arabic Studies in 2019. He has been in the services of MOGCOLIS since 1992, rising through the ranks to become Lecturer in 2000, Head of Department of Arabic Studies, and Deputy Provost in 2021.
Dr Bashir has demonstrated exceptional leadership and organisational skills throughout his career. He has authored 11 publications in peer-reviewed national and global journals demonstrating his academic prowess and commitment to scholarship. His extensive and demonstrable experience, seniority and accomplishments qualified him for this appointment.
On behalf of the Borno State Government, the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Bukar Tijani, congratulates Dr Bashir Umar Bashir on his well-deserved appointment. He admonished the new Provost to justify the confidence and trust placed on his shoulders by the Executive Governor of Borno State, by turning around the fortunes of the college through strict adherence to national and global best practices.
The SSG further enjoined the new Provost to ensure that the mandate and objectives of the college are meticulously pursued through teamwork, robust programming and constructive pedagogy/andragogy that will bridge the gap between theory and practice.
