
Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed deep grief over the electrocution tragedy that claimed five lives, including that of a senior government official, in Tudun Wadan Pantami area of Gombe metropolis.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, reportedly resulted from a high-voltage surge from an electricity transformer, leaving several other residents injured.
Among the deceased is the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Regional Integration, Alhaji Muhammad Yusuf Kulani, who the governor described as a committed public servant and patriot.
“I received with profound sadness the devastating news of the tragic electrocution incident… which led to the death of five individuals and left several others injured,” the governor said in a statement issued by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli.
“This heart-wrenching incident, reportedly caused by a high-voltage surge from a nearby electricity transformer, has plunged our state into mourning,” the statement read.
Governor Yahaya lamented the death of Alhaji Kulani, describing him as “a diligent, disciplined, and patriotic officer who served our dear state with integrity and commitment.”
He added that the loss of such valuable lives is a “painful blow not only to their immediate families but to the entire Gombe State.”
The governor assured the public that the state government will collaborate with relevant agencies to investigate the root cause of the tragedy and take necessary steps to avert similar occurrences in the future.
“On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who lost their lives… May Allah grant the souls of the deceased eternal rest in Aljannat Firdaus and give their families the fortitude to bear the huge loss,” the governor stated.
He also prayed for the speedy and full recovery of those who sustained injuries in the incident.
The Gombe State Government has directed emergency services and health officials to provide all necessary support to affected families and victims receiving treatment.
