Gunmen Abduct Varsity Lecturer, Attack Businessman in Taraba

A lecturer from Taraba State University has been abducted and a businessman attacked by gunmen along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road in Taraba State.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday between Janda-Ikula and Ikyior villages in Wukari Local Government Area, according to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X (formerly Twitter), on Friday.

The victims, identified as Mr. Emmanuel Haggai Bibinu, a 42-year-old businessman, and Engineer Joshua Saleh, a 38-year-old lecturer, were reportedly travelling from Abuja to Jalingo when their vehicle was ambushed by the assailants.

Makama said the gunmen, numbering four, forced the vehicle to stop by shooting at its front tyres.

“They were armed with a gun and three cutlasses. The victims were dragged out of the car and taken into the bush by the attackers,” the post read.

Bibinu, who later managed to escape, said the attackers stole his Samsung Galaxy G10 smartphone valued at ₦1.7 million and ₦83,000 in cash.

He reportedly fled to Ikyior village, where a local hunter assisted him and took him to the police.

As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Engineer Saleh remain unknown.

Security operatives have launched a manhunt for the kidnappers, while efforts to rescue the abducted lecturer are ongoing.

Taraba State Police Command is yet to officially comment on the incident.
