INEC fixes Feb. 20, 2027 for presidential election, others

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Feb. 20, 2027, for Nigeria’s next presidential election.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the date at a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.

He said the National Assembly elections would be conducted on the same day as the presidential poll.

According to him, governorship and state House of Assembly elections are scheduled to hold on March 6, 2027.

Amupitan said the commission had commenced early preparations to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.

“We are fully prepared for the exercise and will continue to engage stakeholders to guarantee transparency and efficiency,” he said.

The INEC chairman assured Nigerians that the commission would adhere strictly to the provisions of the Electoral Act and relevant guidelines in the conduct of the elections.

He also urged political parties and other stakeholders to cooperate with the commission to ensure peaceful and successful polls.
