The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recommenced the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, ushering in the second phase of the process.
The exercise resumed on Monday, January 6, 2026, following the conclusion of the first phase, which officially ended on December 10, 2025.
INEC had earlier launched online pre-registration for the CVR on August 18, 2025, before rolling out physical registration at designated centres across the country on August 25, 2025.
According to the commission, a total of 9,891,801 Nigerians initiated online pre-registration during the first phase of the exercise.
Out of this figure, 2,572,054 registrations were fully completed nationwide as of November 28, 2025. The completed registrations included 1,503,832 processed online and 1,068,222 completed through physical registration.
INEC explained that the interval between the first and second phases was used to carry out statutory obligations required by law. These included the display of the register of voters to allow for claims and objections by the public.
“In compliance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the display of the register of voters for claims and objections was conducted from December 15 to 21, 2025, at local government area offices where the CVR exercise took place,” the commission stated.
However, INEC disclosed that the CVR exercise remains suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral activities in both areas. The commission added that fresh dates for the resumption of registration in Anambra and the FCT will be announced in due course.
The resumption of the CVR is expected to provide eligible Nigerians another opportunity to register and participate in future elections.
