Inuwa Yahaya Hands Over 16 Vehicles to Judges, Khadis

The Gombe State Government has boosted the operational efficiency of the state judiciary with the provision of 16 brand-new vehicles to High Court judges and khadis of the Shari’a Court of Appeal.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, represented by his deputy, Dr. Mannasah Daniel Jatau, presented the vehicles in Gombe on Friday, saying the gesture underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening a strong and independent justice system in the state.

He said the vehicles, procured as part of efforts to enhance judicial mobility and institutional autonomy, reflect the government’s sincerity in equipping all arms of government for improved service delivery.

“These vehicles are brand-new 2025 models, and I urge the beneficiaries to use them strictly for official duties. The Governor has done his part; it is now left to the beneficiaries to reflect this investment in improved performance,” Jatau said.

He noted that the Inuwa-led administration has continued to address longstanding challenges in various sectors, including efforts to clear inherited gratuity backlogs and ensure prompt salary payments.

The Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Malam Muhammad Gambo Magaji, said the government procured the 16 vehicles—covering all judges, khadis, the Chief Judge, and the Grand Khadi—at a cost of over N2 billion.

Magaji added that it was the first time in more than a decade that the judiciary would receive new official vehicles, describing the intervention as a major step toward strengthening judicial autonomy and effectiveness.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Barr. Zubair Muhammad Umar, said the gesture fulfilled a longstanding commitment to repositioning the justice sector. He cited the ongoing construction of the N16 billion ultra-modern High Court complex as further evidence of the administration’s support.

He explained that many judicial officers had gone over 12 years without vehicle replacements, despite the stipulated four-year renewal cycle.

“From the quality and standard of the vehicles provided, it is clear that His Excellency has fulfilled his promise in a way that truly befits the status of our judicial officers,” he said.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Gombe Branch, Barr. Alhassan Muazu, commended the governor for the “unprecedented gesture,” noting that the provision of vehicles demonstrates respect for the rule of law and commitment to justice delivery.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chief Registrars of the High Court and the Shari’a Court of Appeal expressed appreciation to Governor Yahaya for what they described as timely and impactful support to the judiciary.

They said the new vehicles would significantly enhance mobility, productivity, and justice delivery across the state, assuring that the facilities would be put to judicious use.

Since assuming office in 2019, Governor Yahaya has continued to support all three arms of government, providing conducive working environments to enable them to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
