
Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State on Tuesday joined diplomats and dignitaries at the commemoration of Pakistan’s Independence and Defence Day held at the High Commission of Pakistan in Abuja.
The event was attended by ambassadors, defence attachés from various countries, senior Nigerian government and military officials, as well as members of the Pakistani community in Nigeria.
Yahaya, who was a special guest of honour, was received by the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Nigeria, Maj.-Gen. (Rtd) Sohail Ahmad Khan.
In his remarks, Khan paid tribute to Pakistan’s national heroes, martyrs and founding fathers, while highlighting the country’s resilience, unity and achievements since independence in 1947.
Speaking on the sidelines of the celebration, Yahaya stressed the importance of international cooperation and mutual respect among nations.
He commended Pakistan’s contributions to global peace and development, and underscored the need to strengthen diplomatic and cultural relations between Nigeria and Pakistan.
The annual event marks Pakistan’s independence as well as its Defence Day, which honours the sacrifices of its armed forces.
