Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has taken swift action to address the water crisis in Gombe, ordering speedy repairs to the Dadinkowa Water Treatment Plant after a storm cut power supply.
The governor, concerned about the basic needs of his people, directed the Ministry of Water, Environment, and Forest Resources to restore normalcy to water production and distribution by Wednesday, May 1, 2024. He emphasized, “I don’t want any delay. You must ensure production and pumping of water to the people latest by Wednesday.”
The water crisis was caused by vandalism of some poles on the 330KV Jos-Gombe transmission line, leading to a power supply interruption.
The Dadinkowa Water Supply Scheme, which produces approximately 35 million liters of water per day, was affected, leaving residents without adequate water supply.
Acting on the governor’s directive, technical teams have been mobilized to replace broken-down electric poles and repair power cables. The teams are working tirelessly to ensure power supply to the water treatment plant is restored.
The Gombe State Government appreciates the public’s patience and understanding during this challenging time and commends their confidence in the government’s efforts to resolve the situation without delay. The government is committed to ensuring continuous and uninterrupted water supply to the people.
Repairs are expected to be completed by Tuesday, April 30, 2024, with water production, pumping, and distribution set to resume immediately on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
