Adamawa State is facing a severe fuel crisis as the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has forcibly closed all filling stations in the state.
The sudden shutdown has left commuters, schoolchildren, and civil servants stranded, with many struggling to reach their destinations.
The closure is a result of IPMAN’s dispute with the Nigeria Customs Service, which the association accuses of intimidation, illegal seizures of tankers and petroleum products, and unlawful operations.
Despite criticism from many, IPMAN remains adamant, insisting that customs officers are harassing their members and causing significant financial losses.
The fuel shortage has led to a hike in tricycle fares by up to 200%, making transportation unaffordable for many residents.
