ISWAP Issues Quit Notice To Borno Communities, Threatens Death

Barely four days after killing 15 fishermen in Tumbun Rogo community, the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have issued a quit notice to residents of Kukawa Local Government Area (LGA), threatening death if they fail to comply.

A resident, who fled his community to Maiduguri three hours after receiving the threat, revealed that the terrorists gathered residents of various communities in the LGA early Thursday and ordered them to vacate their homes by Saturday or face death.

According to the resident, who requested anonymity, communities started vacating their homes immediately after receiving the threat, with some fleeing to Kross Kauwa and others to Monguno.

Kukawa LGA, located at Lake Chad, is known for fishing, farming, and other agricultural activities. Despite the presence of Nigerian Army and Navy troops, the area has been repeatedly attacked by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists due to its socioeconomic value.

The terrorists exploit the fishing and farming activities in the area for survival and financial support. The Professor Babagana Zulum administration had previously resettled displaced communities, including Kross Kauwa, Baga, Doron-Baga, Kukawa community, and Tumbun Rogo, but the area remains vulnerable to attacks.
