The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has called on the Federal Government to expedite the ongoing renegotiation of their conditions of service to avert a breakdown of industrial harmony in Nigerian universities.
In a press release issued in Abuja on Wednesday, JAC congratulated the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on the signing of a new agreement with the Federal Government, describing it as a significant milestone toward improved working conditions for university workers.
The committee said it remained committed to sustaining industrial peace in the university system, but warned that any further delay in concluding negotiations with NASU and SSANU after the ASUU agreement could be interpreted as an invitation to chaos.
According to JAC, non-academic staff have continued to exercise restraint despite what it described as government insensitivity to the university system and the harsh conditions under which its members work.
JAC noted that the timely conclusion of negotiations with NASU and SSANU would help prevent disruptions and preserve peace and harmony across public universities.
The committee advised the Federal Government to avoid delay tactics that could trigger unrest in the university system.
The statement was jointly signed by the General Secretary of NASU, Prince Peters A. Adeyemi, and the President of SSANU and Chairman of JAC, Mohammed H. Ibrahim.
