Jada Local Government football team has emerged champion of the 2025 edition of the Adamawa Governor’s Cup after defeating Yola North in a dramatic penalty shootout that ended 4-2.

The highly anticipated grand finale, held at the Federal College of Education football pitch in Yola, was attended by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, top government officials, dignitaries, and football enthusiasts from across the state.

The final match between Jada and Yola North ended in a goalless draw after 90 minutes of intense action, leading to a penalty shootout where Jada triumphed.

Lamurde LGA secured third place in the tournament, which began in February and featured teams from all 21 local government areas of the state.

Governor Fintiri expressed excitement over the level of sportsmanship displayed by the players and commended both teams and the match officials for a seamless and thrilling finale.

“I am proud of the talent displayed by our youth across the state. This tournament has shown the depth of potential we have in football,” he said.

The governor announced a donation of ₦1 million to each of the 21 participating local government teams and urged them to begin early preparations for future competitions.

He assured that his administration would continue to invest in sports development, noting that work is ongoing on a world-class stadium in the state capital.

“The final of the next edition of the Governor’s Cup will be held in our new stadium, which is near completion. We are also building standard football fields in each of the state’s three geopolitical zones,” Fintiri stated.

He added that plans are underway to extend such infrastructure to all 21 LGAs to support young talents in various sports disciplines beyond football.

Fintiri reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to promoting youth engagement through sports, both to nurture talent and create pathways to national and international recognition.
