Jalingo Keke Driver Sells Tricycle to Marry Lover Who Hid Secret Childbirth

A commercial tricycle operator in Jalingo, Taraba State, has shared a painful story of betrayal after selling his only source of income to marry a woman who had secretly given birth just weeks before their wedding.

The driver, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he sold his tricycle to fund the wedding, believing he had found true love with the full support of the bride’s family.

He recounted how the woman’s parents assured him of her suitability, concealing the fact that she had recently delivered a child while still in school.

“I sold my keke because they said she was a good girl. I loved her, and I didn’t want to delay. But just after the wedding, I started noticing things—especially how her breast milk was flowing unusually,” he said.

When questioned, the woman gave inconsistent explanations. His suspicions deepened until she eventually confessed that she had given birth two weeks before the wedding. According to her, the baby died shortly after.

Devastated by the revelation, the driver said he immediately ended the marriage. “They refused to refund my bride price or anything I spent. I had to begin again from zero. I managed to get another keke and start afresh,” he said.

Despite the heartbreak, the young man continues to work daily, gradually rebuilding his life. He offered a word of advice to others planning to settle down: “Pray well and investigate thoroughly before you marry.”
