JAMB Extends Public University Admission Deadline

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for the completion of admission processes into public universities to November 17, 2025.

This was announced in a statement by JAMB’s spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday in Abuja.

Benjamin said the extension followed appeals from the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) and other stakeholders, citing disruptions caused by judicial and administrative factors.

He recalled that during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, had approved October 31, 2025, as the initial deadline for all public universities to conclude their admission processes.

“The Board commends the zeal, diligence, and commitment demonstrated by public universities toward meeting the approved timeline,” Benjamin said.

“However, owing to some emergent and compelling circumstances, the Board has found it necessary to extend the deadline for the completion of 2025 admissions into public universities from Friday, 31st October 2025, to Monday, 17th November 2025.”

According to him, the extension was prompted by two main factors — a court injunction that temporarily halted some admission processes, and the recent accreditation of 229 new academic programmes in 37 universities by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Benjamin explained that admissions into the newly approved programmes were still being scheduled, hence the need to adjust the timeline to accommodate them.

“In light of these developments, and to ensure fairness and inclusiveness, the Board hereby extends the deadline for the completion of 2025 public university admissions to Monday, 17th November, 2025,” he said.

He added that while JAMB appreciated the cooperation of all institutions, the new deadline would be final and must be strictly adhered to.

Benjamin reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to a transparent and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals while respecting institutional autonomy.

He noted that the extension reflects JAMB’s effort to manage unforeseen judicial and administrative delays while expanding access to higher education in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
