The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has outlined the eligibility and registration requirements for candidates intending to sit for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
According to the guidelines, candidates must be at least 16 years old by the time of admission and must be Nigerian citizens or recognised residents to qualify for the examination.
On academic qualifications, prospective candidates are required to possess a minimum of five credit passes at the O’Level, including English Language and Mathematics. The credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings from recognised examination bodies such as WAEC, NECO, GCE and NABTEB.
For registration, the board made it mandatory for all candidates to have a National Identification Number, which is required for profile code generation and completion of the UTME registration process. Candidates are also advised to ensure that their personal information, including name, date of birth, gender, state of origin and local government area, corresponds with records on the National Identity Management Commission database.
In addition, candidates are required to provide a valid and unique email address as well as an active mobile phone number, which will be used for registration confirmation, examination updates and other official communications.
The board further stated that candidates would be allowed to select up to four tertiary institutions in order of preference. These may include universities, polytechnics, colleges of education or innovative enterprise institutions.
JAMB advised prospective candidates to carefully review the requirements and ensure full compliance before commencing registration for the 2026 UTME to avoid disqualification or registration challenges.
