As part of activities marking his administration’s two years in office, Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, on Thursday held a town hall meeting with citizens and the media to present his midterm scorecard.
The event, held in Jalingo, featured open dialogue with residents on key development sectors and a review of the administration’s achievements since assuming office in 2023.
Governor Kefas said his government had recorded major successes in education, including the implementation of free and compulsory education in all public schools, distribution of instructional materials, construction of 60 new schools, and payment of WAEC and NECO fees for students across the state.
“In the last twenty-four months, we have done exceedingly well in the education sector. Our commitment has been firm, and the results are showing,” he said.
The governor also highlighted progress in other sectors such as agriculture, civil service reforms, healthcare, energy, and urban development. He pointed to the ongoing Taraba State Development Master Plan and the revival of the Taraba Geographic Information Service (TAGIS) as part of efforts to modernise land administration.
“We are gradually working on upgrading our roads and major infrastructure within available resources. Our goal is to leave Taraba better than we met it,” Kefas said.
He noted that the state’s engagement with local and international economic stakeholders was already yielding benefits and would help the state move towards economic self-sufficiency in the near future.
The governor attributed the achievements to a dedicated team and the support of Tarabans, pledging to sustain momentum in service delivery.
“We cannot achieve these successes without the cooperation of our people. We remain focused on our vision to build a more prosperous and inclusive Taraba,” he added.
The town hall meeting was attended by civil society groups, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and members of the press, who posed questions on governance, infrastructure, and social services.
