Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU) has organised a one-day capacity-building workshop for Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments (HODs), Level Coordinators and other academic staff, aimed at strengthening academic service delivery, quality assurance and digital transformation within the institution.
The workshop, held on Tuesday at the University, was declared open by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babagana Gutti, who said the training was part of management’s deliberate efforts to enhance academic excellence and improve efficiency through the adoption of modern digital tools.
Prof. Gutti urged academic staff to fully embrace the University Management System (SMS), a digital platform that integrates core academic and administrative activities of the University.
He stressed that Level Coordinators, Examination Officers, HODs, Deans and other academic administrators must become fully conversant with the system to support KIU’s transition to a fully digital academic environment.
The Vice-Chancellor commended staff for their dedication and willingness to adapt to digital innovations, noting that such efforts would promote transparency, efficiency and improved service delivery across the University.
The workshop featured sessions on 499/599 project supervision, the use of applications for academic referencing, effective utilisation of the KIU portal, and quality assurance practices in the university system.
Speaking at the event, the Director of Quality Assurance, Dr. Grema Mustapha, called on academic staff to actively support and implement quality assurance measures across all faculties and departments.
He explained that the Directorate of Quality Assurance is responsible for developing policies, frameworks, templates and tools to ensure effective quality management within the University.
According to him, the Directorate also serves as the institutional hub for quality monitoring, data collection and reporting, with focus areas including curriculum development and review, effective teaching and learning, research quality and integrity, as well as strengthening synergy between the University, students and the host community.
Also speaking, Dr. Silas Kiman provided practical guidance on academic referencing and research documentation using the Mendeley software.
He encouraged young and newly recruited academic staff to adopt the software to enhance research organisation, improve referencing accuracy and uphold high academic writing standards.
The workshop forms part of KIU Management’s strategic commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, promoting quality education and advancing digital transformation in line with global best practices.
