Labour party in Demsa local government in Adamawa state has withdrawn from participating in local government chairmanship and coulncil elections in Adamawa scheduled to hold on 13th of July, 2024 saying participating in the elections would be admitting to defeat and a show of desperation.
The party says it would to give in to anti democratic forces trying to stage an atmosphere to suggest there is a semblance of democracy in what is going on in Adamawa when in fact it is actually the opposite.
This is contained in a press statement issued by the party’s leadership, over the weekend, in Demsa.
The statement said there are some desperate political jobbers who have lost their place within their party’s structure who are desperate to use Labour Party as a front to monetise their ambition and put LP in a loosing position when it actually did not participate in any elections.
The party maintains that in Adamawa there is only one Labour Party under the leadership of Theman Jonas, and warns all its members to stay away from the stage managed elections while it awaits an authentic national convention for the emergence of it’s national leadership.
The statement reads, “Ladies and Gentlemen of the fourth echelon of the society, after a Crucial meeting with executive, a fruitful emergency meeting of Demsa Labour Party Executive, Ward Chairmen and serious minded Stakeholders, it has become imperative that we address some lingering misconception about recent happenings in the party at State Level and particularly as touching Labour Party in Demsa LG .Area.
“First and foremost, there remain one indivisible EXCOS under the Chairmanship of Pastor, Hon Tufanus Daniel, loyal to the National and State Transition Caretaker Committees.
“We understand that people who are desperate for money are bent on swindling our members by commandeering them to contest elections under an illegally constituted Party Executives, which will be nullified even if won at the Tribunals.
The newly constituted National Transition Committee under Comrade Abdulwaheed Umar is planning a nationwide convention to usher in congresses at Wards, Local Governments, States and National levels , which will give birth to National officers of the party nationwide.
“We understand that disheartened and disenfranchised persons from APC other parties are being begged to come over to Labour Party and are being given forms to contest so as to make it look as if there is credibility in the party and the process, which we know is void and lacking because they are out to swindle or scammed Contestants.
“They want to get money by hook or crook. Oh monetisation!!!!, the bane of corruption.
“This is what Labour Party is out to stop.”
The statement further said, “See, anyone can sit down, design and sell forms, but because of high level of integrity and Patriotism, couple with love for people, our able Caretaker Chairman Hon Theman Jonah objected to the idea, because it will amount to loosing election even before contesting, with Party Leaders not emerging through popular Congresses.
Also, common civility and modesty could have lectured the perpetrators of the ongoing dastardly act that their appointed tenure expired since 09/06/2024. Anyway it’s not their fault , since the delay is from the Transition Committee.
“The only credentials they are brandishing is that their names are still with INEC. If so don’t they have conscience? “To cheat is unrighteousness “
It concludes that based, “”On the aforementioned, we of The Labour Party Caretaker Demsa is hereby calling on all intending and interested Contestants not to waste their money to purchase any Form as we deemed it as wasted effort, – “a cloud that will never gather nor release rain”.
“Therefore we have resolved with all the 27 harmonised Obidient groups not to Participate in the forth coming Local Governments election in Adamawa State, not to support, campaign nor vote for any of such ignorant contestants.
“All Party EXCO, Ward Chairmen and their EXCO, Party faithfuls, supporters, militants, and Goodwill and harmonised Obidient groups should wait patiently as the National Chairman of the Transition Committee Comrade Abdulwaheed Umar is working tirelessly for the release of the the template for the conduct of Congresses from Ward to National.”
